The Milk Float Incident

“It moves. That is the thing nobody expects about a milk float. It absolutely moves.”
It is five o'clock in the morning, the world is quiet, and the milk float is just sitting there, keys in the ignition. It's a silent, electric dare. We climb in, find the 'on' button and the world starts to move. Quietly at first. And then very, very fast. Is that a garden wall we're heading for?
“The thing is, nobody expects a milk float... to move that fast.”
From the back cover
You don't expect a milk float to be a getaway vehicle. They're slow, quiet, and full of milk. But at 5am, with the street to ourselves, we find the start button and discover its secret: a milk float can really move.
The silent streets of Bramblewick become our personal racetrack. For about thirty seconds.
Our parents slept through the whole thing, of course.
