“Somebody said the air rifle was only for tin cans. There were no tin cans. There was a greenhouse.”
The new air rifle is supposed to be for tin cans, but there are no tin cans. There is, however, a greenhouse. A very large, very quiet, very glassy greenhouse, glinting in the summer sun. It feels like a dare. And we have a pocketful of pellets.
“Was that... another one?”
From the back cover
Some things are just asking for trouble. A brand new air rifle, for instance. A pocketful of pellets. And a back garden greenhouse, shimmering in the heat.
The rule is simple: only shoot at tin cans. But on a quiet summer afternoon, with not a tin can in sight, the glint of glass is just too tempting. What is the worst that could happen?
The grown-ups will find a mystery. But they will never find the culprits.
