The Chip Shop Bet

“Two quid said I could not eat a whole battered sausage in one go. Two quid was wrong, then right.”
It is a simple bet: two pounds to eat a battered sausage in one go. The first half vanishes down my throat like a dream. But as I lift the second half, the chip-shop owner starts to frown. What has he seen that I haven't? Am I about to be two quid richer, or just very, very sick?
“And then... a sudden, ominous rumble... from deep inside.”

Some bets you make, some you eat. Two quid says a whole battered sausage can't be swallowed in one. That's a challenge, that is. But as the fluorescent lights of the chip shop bear down, and the final greasy mouthful begins its journey, a terrible gurgle echoes from below. The grown-ups hear nothing, of course. They never do.
